DNA keeps writing itself. The Hollywood Reporter writes that Krysten Ritter’s next role won’t be a return to Jessica Jones but a character in an Orphan Black sequel series. “Orphan Black: Echoes is set in the world of the flagship series and takes place in the new future.” Ritter will be starring in, as well as producing, the further adventures of the Orphan-verse.
The winds of Covid. According to BoingBoing, George R.R. Martin has caught “the ‘rona.” And he still hasn’t finished The Winds of Winter. Get well soon, GRRM. Seriously.
Twenty minutes into the future. FilmBuffOnline says that there’s a reboot of Max Headroom “reportedly” in development at AMC, once again starring Matt Frewer. If you don’t know it, it’s a critique of television set in a media-controlled dystopia. And it’s the most cyberpunk show that ever punked.
House of the Dragon reviews are coming. YouTuber David Lightbringer has a short spoiler-free review of House of the Dragon’s first episode. He says he’s very adult, very realistic, and most importantly, very good.
Trailers
It’s better to have loved and lost than to not have had Chadwick Boseman at all. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s teaser is a densely packed ride of energy and emotion. Although we don’t learn much about the plot, it’s about as fully fleshed as a teaser as you can expect. And now we know how the MCU will be handling the death of Chadwick Boseman, who starred as T’Challa in the original Black Panther.
Bad samaritan. Samaritan, starring Sylvester Stallone as a weary ex-superhero, has a trailer. I’m interested for one important reason: it’s a superhero film that doesn’t come from DC or Marvel. Plus, it’s giving me Unbreakable vibes, and that’s always a good thing. Samaritan hits Amazon Prime on August 26, 2022.
Just two regular guys, who are absolutely not vampires, out for an evening stroll.
Vampire with an interviewer. Interview with a Vampire—the Anne Rice novel-turned-1994 film—gets a remake, only this time as a TV series courtesy of AMC. It’s a good idea, IMHO. The book was filled with details and interactions that the film couldn’t possibly fit. The only problem is translating Rice’s sultry prose in a way that suitable for television.
Like sands through the hourglass. The Sandman trailer is here…
…and Vanity Fair has given us Neil Gaiman’s breakdown of said trailer. For Sandman fans (Sandmen? Sandpeople? Dreamers?), we get confirmation that, yes, the most violent issue of Sandman—“24 Hours”— will appear in the Netflix series. Egads.

Personal news
I had to take a newsletter-writing hiatus due to 1) my first assignment from [really cool market; news coming soon]; 2) an actual vacation. Expect more geek news in the near future.
Also, here’s another excellent review of my book. I’m happy down to my toes.
Trivia
The first written example of time travel is in the epic Sanskrit poem, The Mahabarata, likely written between 300 BCE and 300 CE. In it, King Kakudmi visits the realm of Lord Brahma, only to learn that many years have passed on Earth during his brief stay.
