The rebellion will be televised. The trailer for the upcoming Star Wars series Andor is here, filled with new sights and familiar (and surprising) characters. Come for the galaxy far, far away. Stay for what could be an absolutely epic soundtrack.
The only bad news? Andor has been quietly pushed back three weeks, from August 31 to September 21, 2022.
Dear gods, I’m reading the New York Post. Seriously, I wouldn’t have done it except for Batgirl. The New York Post, via io9, reports that you can forget that HBO Max release of Batgirl. The film has been deemed “irredeemable.” It will likely wind up on the same shelf as the Ark of the Covenant.
The test screening results must truly be dreadful for DC/Warner Bros. to disappear it. Now fans of the beloved character Barbara Gordon—a character who evolved from police commissioner’s daughter to superhero, with a whole lotta evolution along the way—will miss out on the opportunity to see our hero get the starring role she deserves.
Not only that, the movie will have absolutely no way to earn back its $70 million production costs. Will no one think of the shareholders?!
What you get when you cross Toy Story with a Rated-G Ted. The “toys are alive, honest” subgenre has a new entry in Lost Ollie. Here’s a trailer for a miniseries. Although it’s a little too young for my taste, it does strum the heartstrings. Lost Ollie will appear on Netflix on August 24, 2022.
It’s not personal. It’s business. Speaking of strumming the heartstrings, Netflix has a clip of Death doing her job in the upcoming series The Sandman. It’s poignant as hell. Brava for casting Kirby Howell-Baptiste, who shows kindness and compassion when it’s needed the most.
Geeky job for you
Candyman, Candyman, Candyman. Do you have a sweet tooth? A need for $75,000 a year? The right to work in Canada? If so, there’s a job with your name—and tastebuds—on it.
According to the Washington Post, Candy Funhouse needs a taste tester. You would be required to eat 3,500 pieces of candy per month. That’s more than 100 pieces of sugar-filled goodness (and/or badness) per day.
The job comes with free dental. But there’s no word on its diabetic care plan.
Science!
Remember in my previous newsletter, when I mentioned that website FandomSpot had conducted a study on gamers and insomnia? Welp, there’s more to the study. According to FandomSpot’s press release:
Of the 47% of gamers who say they have insomnia, 92% say they game on average 2-3 hours per day.
42% of gamers revealed that they often game before going to sleep.
77% say that they often do not feel refreshed in the morning and it impacts their activities in the day.
Gamers aged 18 - 34 are the most likely to suffer from sleep problems and deprivation.
Current wisdom from the Sleep Foundation recommends that you unplug from your game—and any other electronic device—before bedtime. Stick to relaxing activities one hour before tucking yourself in.
Trivia
Bela Lugosi, who brought Dracula to life (so to speak) on the big screen in 1931 and was subsequently typecast as a horror star, married a woman who sent him fan mail.
Who knew a man who played a blood-sucking vampire could be so romantic?
